Sleeping in a surf?!

I use a 3 man pop up Quechua tent which looks a little flimsy and won't let the fabric be pulled completely taught... But is one of the best things I ever bought.#
When I camp for a weekend I take that (£40 if memory serves) a pop up gazebo (£60 from Argos I think) and a fold out picnic table (£20from halfords) and whilst everyone else struggles we can have everthing up, guyed out and secure and a cup of tea on in 10 mins I've used my pop up tent through 2 nights of pizsing rain and stayed dry and warm (and even warmer when taking everthing down at the end of the weekend in minutes as everyone else got soaked!)#

Are the fold out picnic tables worth it?, im thinking about getting one. Would it withstand a fat git sitting on it?
I already have a decent camping chair & was thinking about getting a separate folding table but maybe the table/seat combo is better.

My plan is to leave my gear in the back of the surf & have the Quechua tent as a covered eating/drinking/relaxing zone like in the youtube clip i linked earlier. Might get a second smaller pop-up tent purely to sleep in.

I go kayaking a fair bit and have used a similar inflatable carrier for surf board and kayaks. I dont rate them very well at all. Just get the bars or take the plunge and fit some roof rails.

Sleeping in the back is brilliant, done it once only in mine but I highly recommend it, once youve lit your stove it warms up nicely too and having a back window to wind down helps keep the steam down.

I've had myself the wife and 3 dogs sleep in the back of mine at the 2008 RTTS it was nice and warm and comfy on a double inflatable mattress

it was a laugh at the rtts last time as the mrs nissed as a pewt and with my truck lifted and the mattress in the back it was such a laugh watching her climb in

Also, anyone used those padded straps to carry surfboards on the roof? What roof racks fit onto the Hilux Surf?

Im tallish at 6ft2 & a bit fat at 20 stone & i have no problem sleeping in the back of my surf. Did it last summer a few times when i couldn't be arsed putting up the tent.
Its fine for the odd night, anymore & it would bet annoying.

Im getting this tent as soon as i have the money saved. Takes seconds to set-up unlike the piece of crud i got from argos which is like a Krypton factor challenge to assemble.

I think its the Quechua tent i want. The Oztent is a serious piece of kit but they're about 500/600 quid.

Personally, from a camping point of view I swear by Khyam tents. The one I've got (I think it's the "Igloo") Takes about 30 secs to erect & peg to the ground. Guys are easily added in poor conditions. Excellent weather protection.

It only takes a minute or so to take down as well.

I've never liked the "pop up" style of tents favoured by one or two folks here. Give the Khyams a good checking over if anyone fancies getting themselves a nice, easy, reliable, good quality tent...

We have had four adults sat on it loads of times but it doesnt feel that sturdy. If you're not too fussed about taking up space I would probably get seperates.

If its not to sleep in I would get a pop up gazebo with sides- you'll have more space to stand etc. Put it flush with the surf and it makes for a lot more pleasant way to get out of the surf for a pee if its raining.

I now have my eye on a couple of tents on ebay. I have an old (very!) 2 berth tent that i got for the kids to use in the back garden but it's been put away for so long that i can't remember where i put it & i doubt it'll be much good by now!

Lit your stove???? I know mine's roomy but ###### hell!!!
