Can you explain that first picture? Why is there walls of snow?

The plough/blower has cut the road through a big drift.

You never seen snow like that before?

It happens in high exposed areas.

We have snow poles planted along the side of the roads with red bands on them about 10 foot tall.
Keeps you on the road when it's white out conditions and as above lets the plough know where to go.

Also those banks are not made on first pass they are the result of days of clearing.

In japan they must need bigger poles!

No same size poles. Japanese people are very small.

You know what I get a bit miffed about. See yon snow in Japan (and other countries) ll that snow, but the roads are bone dry. Our roads are wet and slippy from November to April!

Was talking to Alan about this only last week. Maybe we should take a leaf from their book and others, only clear main roads use no salt so no forced melting of snow causing wet roads. Change the law so we all use chains on all side/town roads. Less muck, less slush, less rust and no moaning rep man who can't get the jag out the street.

Look how easy is to drive the back roads round here with a good covering of snow on them, even a mondeo could handle that with chains on.
