  • Surf 2.4 td

    Greetings from sunny BG!

purrrhaps a silly question but i have searched for the answer and now need to ask the question!

Hilux Surf 2.4 td 1991 model... I have huge after market wide wheels on my beloved jeep... the snow is coming and i wish to change to narrow wheels and tyres...

currently all i know is that my tyres are 265 x something x 15's and the wheels themselves are really very wide...

i have been advised that going down to 235 x something x 15's would have better snow traction on the bad roads of Bulgaria!

i know theres 6 bolts holding the wheels on and thats it!

can anyone help point me in the right direction to know what i'm meant to be ordering size wise for a narrow 'normal' tyre end result... pretty please?

A lot of people here swear by Fulda tyres for the winter.

I don't, but I think they are relatively cheap and available.

            surfing

            thanks for the welcome guys!

so today i went swap me 265's for some 235's and what a difference it has made!

the old geezer now is mimicing me little MG-F, he's super speedy, handles the twisty turney bends here really well, is moving along the tarmac better and so i filled him up with diesel to put to the test if i will get better consumption too! lol

now if anyone out there knows of any reason why what i have done is dangerous, or if these new tyres will 'roll off' the rims.... prey tell me eh!

will get a few photos of the new tyres in a mo for you ''cheesy grin'' lol

That's criminal, putting smaller tyres on.

                  criminal!

you know i really agree with you, until the snow arives here and i cant get on or off me farm!

last few years i have been skiing along and have had so many close misses almost going over the edge and down the ravine that this year i thort i mite get jest a tad sensible... but with two cars unable to navigate the snow or wet conditions, the other being MG-F really low hung unable to navigate the potholes or slightest bump and me Surf with wide 'suitable for the sahara desert' wheels... i thort jest purrrrhaps i try something new before testing the strenght of this gloriously strong jeep as we go hurtling over that getting closer edge! lol

i also just had major steering repairs so hopefully this will help keep more similar repairs at bay jest a tad eh?

well i would rather be seen with them and ON the dirt road still... skinny little tyres that is, than to be being viewed from the top of the hill in a car upside down in the ravines! lol
