User submissions and cross submissions from other Devs, as well as any form of honey traps they can use are the primary methods, if I remember correctly.

So they'll never be as current as Sophos, McAfee and Norton etc.?

Generally more so, as a rule. They have a lot of the real world admins and other Developers sharing with them, so tend to be pretty much on the leading edge most of the time.

There'll obviously be exceptions in every case, but the ones who utilise the userbase instead of using closed loop submissions systems tend to be extremely current. At the end of the day though, the quality of the product overall rests solely on the quality of the Dev's and sig writers.

The first thing to check is the 'Sent Items' folder in your wifes email account. Does the email appear in the folder? If not, then it's not been hacked. It's very easy to make an email *look* like it came from another email address. I often get emails from myself selling the usual rubbish.
