Last night an email was sent with a link to a clothing website from my wifes hotmail account to everyone in her contacts. She did not send it and it was not written in very good english. I have changed her password but don't know what else to do. Any advice greatly appreciated.

any how changing the password should offer some protection, but it may pay to delete that account and start a new one.
Is there any way they can get any information off either of my computors.
I know about as much about computors as I do about under water basket weaving.
Thanks for the reply.monstercreations.org.uk

I suggest you get AVG, free edition as a first precaution unless you already have another up-to-date antivirus software
http://free.avg.com/gb-en/homepage
and do a complete scan
Do that on all your PCs.

The hotmail account holds all the info at a seperate "place" so unless you have documents and folders stored at a seperate server, they cant gain access to your files and folders.Any links in an email, that link documents you have attached will allow access, but only to that specific file you have attached.Non intercooled nothing.

Originally posted by Thriftyif you look at the reply to address in the hacked sent e mail you can find the reply address, to be sure it is a hack of the account. chances of tracing it are slim if the hackers are good, if they are not then some simple things can be done to find the source. chances are slim but reporting it to hot mail would be a start. as would upgrading your security AVG is very good but if you can go for the paid version with full pack of tools to help.Last edited by Phantom; 11 November 2009, 13:31.monstercreations.org.uk

It's not you or your PC that's been hacked, only your wife's Hotmail account (remember it's completely web based).
Having someone check your PC security is a very good idea, but it won't help a hacked Hotmail account. Change the password once a month, don't use proper words in it. I use RoboForm to manage my passwords, it's free if you only have 10 passcards and it has a random password generator built in.
You need to tell the wife to be more careful where she puts her login details. She's had the details scraped when she's logged into one of those faux social networking sites that say something like "Keep your friends up to date blah blah, enter your Hotmail/Yahoo!/Gmail login details"Do you know that, with a 50 character limit, it's
