I didn't realise my validation post would be posted to the public bit and assumed once that is out of the way I could create a new thread with the questions I had.
Anyway, moving on to the questions:
I have a bt of land and forest on the continent. In fact it's like a mini farm.
I currently run a Hyunday Galloper there (based on 1991 Mitsu Pajero I believe). It is sufficiently capable offroader and seems to be coping well with the mud, the snow an the slippery hills. It does feel rather ancient and despite being manufactured in 1999, seems to require a lot of TLC. What annoys me the most though, is that it is an absolute cow on tarmac. Constantly requiring steering input to go straight.
So I want to chop it in and get something better. Better being something that has some on road capability and does not fall apart from under you.
I originally wanted to get a Disco (circa 1996), but having done some research it may be even less reliable than the galloper.
Then I looked at Isuzu trooper and then at Toyota hilux surf.
The two biggest constraints I need to consider:
1. Reliability. I have no access to proper garages over there but a very well equipped garage at home. So the repairs and servicing would need to be of DIY variety
2. Price. I cannot properly import a right hooker there and therefore once the 12 month mot runs out, I will either chop it up and get it converted into a tractor or scrap it for pennies. Therefore I am reluctant to spend more than I have to. and Ideally under £2k
Of course as is usually the case, one always wants something just outside of one's budget and I would like a 3litre turbo diesel version with a bullbar and a towbar and remote central locking
My questions are:
Will Hilux be the best bet for what I need it for
Are there any other reasonable alternatives I should consider?
How do I tell 2nd gen and 3d gen apart?
What to look out for when buiying a used hilux?

I have just joined and wanted to get some help choosing a 4x4, but seems I have to post here first.
I know it's not my place to criticise, but come on mods, surely having to validate your email on registration is obstacle enough. Unless of course this is a secret society and you don't actually want your user base to grow too quickly.
