The amount of times we go to Wales having posted up a thread inviting people only to have it fill with the same people every time. Not that thats a bad thing...

I'm happy to head to Wales pretty much any time I haven't got other priorities. There is so much excellent laning so people who keep banging on about it - put your money where you mouth is and join us. It might just absorb some of the testosterone

It seems that there are two groups that do get together, the Wales group and the site group.
The site group go to Norfolk and the off road centres and the Wales group have a great time doing mini expedition's – sorry Rob and I didn't make it this time but my cheeks would have got cold, hanging them out of the window all the way down the M4 was tempting but frankly spray on mud would be more pleasant on the side of the car than what I would have left!

But essentially this site does provide two well organised- well, organised at least- options for peeps to enjoy.
However, reading the forums these days the crowd is almost anti off roading in some respects in spite of the ample opportunities to join in. Certainly, as Apache eluded to, a sub community does exist of those that do go to events but no longer take part in the forum except in passing.

I think this is generally summed up by people posing that they will 'give x a call'.. if x could be bothered about the place then surely they would have read the thread- this is a general and not a specific comment as I know full well that someone is desperate to jump on something that I have written.

I know what you mean there, my weekends are monday and tuesday I'm always working sat and sun so will be difficult to make any of the meetings (even when my surf is up to scratch)even though I'd love to, even my holidays have to be booked a year in advance , how do I know what's going to be happening in a year's time.

        • Well we've had a couple down this way (Kent/Sussex) too. In some ways all the outings are limited as we all try to keep numbers to a sensible level. Naturally this means it's often the same names as it tends to be those of us who log on quite often that see the thread first and get names down quickly. An off road centre around the midlands that we could go to en masse would be ideal though I know some of us, me included far prefer laning to mudplugging. It's where I suppose the run to the sun and past plain outings have worked so well, As you get the best of both worlds

The Scottish contingent are pretty active too.

When you say 'The Site' group, what do you mean?

            • The Scottish folk are more active on SMC though (vehicle inspecific forum for those who dont know) and seem to be far more biased towards vehicle builds / mods / events than this forum.

As Sam said earlier, some here are almost outwardly hostile towards using their trucks offroad - which is fair enough, takes all sorts, but this site DID used to be biased in a similar way to SMC when I first joined. That's no longer the case. It's now become a general 'one type vehicle' forum where offroading is but a tiny part, rather than offroading being a major part as it used to be.

              • Well I like offroading and I have garage bills, blocked drains and a monthly direct debit to Stormforce to prove it!

Aye, the organisation etc. is done on SMC, but there's always an invitation to folk on here. Jess and Gordon have been to more SMC outings than me!

                  • Of course we would all offroad even more if Apaches avatar was more indicative of conditions whilst stuck

i think it was my suggestion the thing is wales is a long way from kent.ok so is cornwall and we went there but we cant all pop over to wales just like that .and from time to time i see a post asking if anyone's interested in a laning day out only to find its in scotland/wales africa or the moon it just doesn't happen in kent .and i know that someone will say get of your ass and do something about it then but i dont now were to start it would be nice if a few of us could get together and suss out some lanes but it would nt be much fun on my own. and before mattf starts im not complaining or trying to start a fight or running down surf owners or this site i just think its a kentish thing and perhaps there aren't too many lanes to use

Mate, I totally agree with you. Off-road and/or laning events are like cheap parts. Always miles and miles away from where one lives. When people say one ought to get off their arses and go, they aren't taking into account the fact that some people may not have any spare cash available at the time. Putting food on the table and keeping a roof over ones head are far more important than a laning expedition.
