  • Future Classic

Almost any car, if you bought it new in the 70's and put it in a garage would be a classic now.
Imagine buying a Lotus Cortina then and sticking it straight into storage.
Which brings me to the question..... Which of todays cars do you think will be a future classic. (affordable)

I'm going with the new fiat 500.

none i think that cars of today will just outstay there welcome and people will just get fed up with them.the cars of the 70s fell apart or just rusted away look at the mk3 cortina just about every one you saw had rust .i think it must of been an extra like plastic wheel trims. and because of that its a classic if it was made like a modern car it would have just become outdated and you probable wouldnt be able to give one away .

I think you have a point in twelve years or so these things will be 30 years old
a lot less of them due too weak heads could be more sought after than the 3 litre as there will be more of them around
we also have a very large fan base and a lot of pride goes into some of these machines there comes a point when all cars are sought after...and therefore classics.....

i even see morris marinas at classic car shows........need i say more

mmmm you may be right the only thing that makes something collectible is the lack of and i suppose not many people would want a 2.4 these days and i suspect with the prices of 3rd gens coming down most 2nd gens 2.4/3.0 l will be ending there days as off roaders in the not too distant future.would any one like to buy a future classic

I think only the usual suspects in modern cars will be classics.
                    i.e.
                    BMW M3/5
                    AUDI RS3/4/6
                    MERC SLK
And a handful of other's, you know the type.

Can't see things like vectra's & mondeo's being up there.
If its not broke don't fix it.

That's pretty much what I think of modern cars, in the 'future classics' regard. Saying that though, who would have ever guessed that the Mini or 2CV would become classics?

Talking of Minis, I cleared all the junk of ours today (1995 Cooper) fitted a fully charged battery and it fired up for the first time in six years!!

Alternator was siezed though and needed a bit of persuading to spin.

You can't tell, apparentley the E type was scoffed at as a future classic.

You need a model with a relatively short run i.e. BMW Z3

Nice. Is that the one that's an ongoing project?

I seem to remember them more as mini sheds on wheels. Love driving them though.
