        Dyslexia prevents people from learning and trying to counter that which they have difficulty with, does it? One never said perfection was to be expected from them. Neither is an absolute abhorrent attempt, (and attempt is used very loosely due to their rarely appearing to be one), justifiable, either.

        What happens if someone who has little or no grasp of English browses this forum and tries to glean information from it? Translators would puke on a lot of the content on here as would limited English speakers translations. People for whom English is their primary language can't decipher half the shit posted on here.

        Btw, I never gave a t0ss from day one what your opinion is. I just couldn't resist picking on your response though.

          Mav, just on this point, (as I have no intention of trying to demean what is a condition), I have double checked against what I believe to be correct and the basics do appear to be correct.

          It tends to be resistant to conventional teaching methods, but its effects can be mitigated by appropriately specific intervention
          That quote was taken from here:

          http://www.bdadyslexia.org.uk/about-dyslexia/faqs.html

          If the condition can be mitigated somewhat, then what I said was correct.

          Also:

          4. Aged 12 or over.

          As for primary schools, plus:

          * Still reads inaccurately.
          * Still has difficulties in spelling.
          * Needs to have instructions and telephone numbers repeated.
          * Gets 'tied up' using long words, e.g. 'preliminary', 'philosophical'.
          * Confuses places, times, dates.
          * Has difficulty with planning and writing essays.
          * Has difficulty processing complex language or long series of instructions at speed.
          Taken from here:

          http://www.bdadyslexia.org.uk/about-...-dyslexia.html

          Difficulty does not mean impossible. None of the above indicates that a dyslexic person is going to speak/write undecipherable nonsense. Have a level of difficulty with the language, yes.

            i wouldn't try to get info from lets say a jap site so if some one had little or no grasp of english then perhaps they should try a site in there own country.
            if you cant read english then dont try

              • i don't think you can comment on the difficulties of dyslexia unless you have it!...

                everyone thinks i'm thick cos i have to ask for instructions 3 times, and then again just to check i've got it right...

                i read a sentence and then because i've not taken it in, by the end of the sentence it doesn't make sense, so the words i'm reading don't fit and have to back track.

                writing the end of words before the middle, so more often than not, i have to back track what i've written and add the missing parts.... which i may miss on a forum!! (this also makes my handwriting terrible and i'm always asked why i write in capitals!)

                i was lucky, i was in the top set for every subject at school, but my school also had a specialist dyslexia unit once a week... everyone's dyslexia is different, some can't read, some can't write, some just can't take in information and usually they're a mixture.

                  This is supposedly a technical forum. There will be people accessing this place from all over the globe who have little or no grasp of English, by the use of either translation tools or getting a bilingual speaker they may know to translate it for them. This board, whilst obviously requiring that the posts are made in English, will not always be read by English literate people.

                  To suggest that foreigners should know English or not bother trying to find information on here is pure arrogance, and that is in theory what you suggest. Might as well put a Redneck inbreds only banner up on here if that's the attitude.

                        Matt. If I am completely wrong regarding dyslexia, then I'll apologise unreservedly on that fact.

                        I have specifically only quoted facts from an established organisation to save having any falsehood, (unless they themselves are incorrect?), backing up what I said.

                        Again, if dyslexia is an insurmountable hurdle towards learning then I will digress and apologise. If not, however, then my opinion still stands that is merely an impediment rather than a barricade to learning. (I'm obviously not suggesting perfection should be expected in any or all areas, btw).
