Lamping is legal. The farms I shoot on after dark, the landowners know I am there, it is also polite to let the local plod know you will be on or around that specific area. When the remmi .243 goes off its very loud, the last thing you want is the local ARV turning up but tbo most of my lamping is done several miles from any public dwellings and with moderated .22 or HMR 17..............

It's not a case of whether you have the nads to do it or not, merely whether you have the inclination. It's a mental choice, not an ability.

Tis true.
When I was a mere lad living in rural Hampshire, our very large family ate whatever came our way.we ate rabbit, wood pigeon, pheasant, partidge and all our veg etc wad grown in the back garden.
We had a few chickens and I remember them making their way onto our dinner table more than once.I was. Maybe 7-8 years old ,when I plucked my first chicken. My dad had wrung it's neck, I plucked it and my mum gutted it .
My point is that we ate what we needed and it was all natural and seemed normal to me from an early age. Now we have kids who don't even know where meat joints come from, coupled with our mass consumerism,we seem to have lost sight of how it was/could be again .
It's easier all round to never see the chicken alive or the pig truffling on the mud,and never give a thought to how that chicken Kiev or pork sausage ended up on you're plate.Non intercooled nothing.

hi all i thought that i was the only one that could kill an animal . i must admit that after reading pauls reasons for hunting it has made me think about the way farm meat is killed and that it probable is better for a wild animal to be shot than a pig to stand in line and what its turn to be exacuted .im just going to have to try wild meat .thanks for starting this one paul you have done a jamie oliver (cheep chicken)

Read some HFW river cottage cookbooks or look on the river cottage website , GYO and wild meat is great but it also tells about rearing your own , Or get some chucks' You've arrived on a rather special night. It's one of the master's affairs.'
