Not sure, but since i removed my aircon rad (front mounted type), engine and centre tunnel cooler. Probably the increase in air flow through rad and engine bay.

Did this start after your gearbox was refited? Dropped and refitted my box and now the 4wd transfer case gets red hot and it leads me to loosing 1st and 3rd gears. Dropped the box again - no problems found - refitted it and still the same problem. Busted the head again and so have not yet sorted this problem out - gears all work cold, but after 30 mins high speed (50mph plus) the box heats up and I lose the gears again. Would really appreciate any ideas you gents have.

Fitting the Milner 1.5'' body lift made a huge difference - air can flow past the tranny and help dump heat that would otherwise radiate into the car via the tunnel.

Also, have a think about fitting a tranny cooler - very easy job and they only cost about £20 or so.

          BIG THANX TO YOU.
          thats next thing to do.....
i still think there`s some crap in there blocking the atf .
what i cant work out though is why i drove all the way to cornwall [5 hrs]
not getting hot at all. drove round whilst down there somtimes got hot then somtimes not.
however on the way back boy were it HOT?
i`ve got a 5" lift on my surf so you`d think there would be plenty of air getting round wouldn`t you ?
          top thread though ..

you could disconnect pipes one at time from bottom of rad to check flow.

Is the torque converter locking up at around 50mph? If not then the fluid will get hot quicker.

I've not noticed any excessive heat on mine - either before or after having Dr Anglegrinder fit a transmission cooler (Quite a while ago now) but I'll check fot it on the run down to Newquay at the weekend.

Mine locks up around 55mph but once it's locked up I can back off to 50mph - useful if you're on an economy drive !

Life is too important to take seriously !

If you have a knackered head, any chance your water pump could be sh@gged? Could possibly be due to not being cooled properly by the coolant system if the pump is knacked.

It could be anything from the fluid or the box to the electrics. Nothing is definite until all possible causes have been checked and eliminated.
