  • Memory map or similar

want to map where to go an where I have been for future ref.

Whats the best set up (within reason) to run in the truck?

I know alot of people run it through laptops and GPS but I am a bit lost of what I exactly need. Or if I actually need memeory map. I have seen a Road Angel 7000 (I think) that may do the same.

    Any help appreciated
How can I be lost when I've got no where to go

Hi Bibs, MM is the business as far as I'm concerned. It's never let me down and I find it invaluable when off roading. Got mine running on a Dell Axim X51 pda which I bought off Ebay, cost me £95 including bluetooth GPS receiver etc. Also got it running on a laptop I bought for £45 the paid another £20 for a wired GPS receiver.

You can draw a route out on it and then use the GPS system to follow that route or it can track and map a route that you have driven.
'Tis better to sting than to be stung!

      Hi Bibs

I use an old sony laptop, hooked up to a cheap Garmin GPS.

Give real time tracking on OS 1:25k maps, great for off road use.

You have the ability to pre define routes, plus keeps a track of where you have been.

Can also print out maps at 1:25k, so handy for me as helps with daughter's TenTors training.

Memory map is the doggies danglies for tracking/routeing etc etc. i got memory map version 5 ( older version for a fraction of the price) which i use for hiking / fell walking. running on an old navman pda and an external gps bluetooth receiver ( about 20 hours run time from one charge and the size of a slim match box)
        all from ebay:
        navman PiN £50
        gps receiver £10
MM software £10 ish for each region.
the software also loads onto a pc/laptop for more involved options.
        Everyone thinks I'm paranoid!!

Yeah I asked about that - thing is I would never use the sat nav bit so bit pointless to have it when I can run it through laptops etc.

one of them diddy netbooks is good enough to run mm or alternatively quomapping or whatever, quo may work out cheaper as the program is free and you just buy and download sections of map as and when you want them. Though MM, like most software, can be got cheap aswell
