  • Gas And Electricity Bills

A long way off topic here but I'd be interested to know how domestic fuel bills compare in different areas. Naturally some people won't want to share personal information so you may just want to quote 'more' or 'less than what I've just been billed.

I've doubled checked the bill and it is correct, to say I got a shock is a bit of an understatement!

We live in a normal brick built, 3 bedroom semi, gas central heating from a combi boiler, gas hob, everything else electric. Just me and Laura at home, Laura works from home and has her 'office' in one of the bedrooms (normally heated by a halogen heater).

    This quarters bill:

    Gas £330.07
    Electricity £158.60

A grand total of £497.71 for the last quarter! Is it just me or does that seem a hell of a lot?
'Tis better to sting than to be stung!

    Hell of a lot.
We pay around £220 per quarter.

You can claim for heating/electricity if a room in your house is used for an office you know.

We are with N Power for both gas and electricity

My mum lives by herself in a Council Bungalow her gas last Qtr £305.30 !

we have changed our tarriff three times now ! but still the prices rise faster than govt inflation figures ! Wood burning stove looks like our new option !

Hi, thats one of the reasons we emigrated, in Greece the television license and council tax is in the electric bill, we pay around 900 pounds a year for the lot, our heating is electric, plus we use aircon in the summer, i used to dread the electric and gas bills, now i watch sky news and think thank god i moved.

your gas is a tad high - is your boiler high efficiency? it might be worth looking at upgrading your insulation, heating controls or wearing a jumper.
My 4 bed detached on the edge of Dartmoor uses 66 per month electric and a little over 2200 litrs of oil a year, no mains gas but 1 £50 ish bottle of propane takes care of the cooker hob for a year.
I went fixed tarrif with scotish power when 'money saving expert' reccomended it and made an imediate saving over the local (EDF)
Did I mention I have a BLUE one

Just paid 650 gas & elec for last quarter (3 bed semi) too say I nearly fell off me chair is an understatment! Turns out the meters had not been read properly and just estimated for the past 2 years. Naturally the 'catch up' was charged at a much higher rate than than when I used the gas & electric last year......

well we live in a small 2 bed terraced.
And ours are about £400 per quarter for the two..

                  We are with Southern Electric...
seems to be one of the cheapest because with British Gas we where paying a lot more....
One day at the time I guess..

We pay £270 per quarter (£90 a month on DD) with Southern Electric for Gas and leccy - 3 bed mid terrace - Tumble dryer on all through the winter, dishwasher on twice a day, washing machine on almost all the time, and I have a fan heater and halogen heater I use in my shed/office/workshop. Bills came in last month and they owed me money.

I'd say you're paying well over the odds...

Not sure what each quarter is but we pay around £1K per year for gas & electric in a 3 bed semi. The Boss recons the last quarter was much higher than usual as we has the CH on a lot more due to the snow etc. And that's with caity wall insulation and a new boiler last summer.
