so while i was out today playing with snips and spanners and stuff

    pull off carpet bord

    its held on with these

    remove the black steel cover

    its just a few screws

peel plasic off very slowly it rips easy

    remove the plasic top too

tricky bit is removel of the handle
keep it pulled up to get at the screws

remove the rod thats joined to the lock first

then remove the rod joined to the handle

now the plasic top can be removed

this should show each end like this

now clip down both these clips on each side of the back door
this will trick the car in to thinking its back door is shut

then very carfully get some one with a brain to tease the window up
like so (this is also how to take out the back window so be very carfull it dont fall out

reason for doing all this is to get at these runners

most of the time its these stoping ya window working not your motor
a motor will cut out after its been staind too much
clean these runners up and grease them

and do the same to these bits

once you cleaned all the arms and runners
you will need a long straight peace of wood or ruler a dry rag and a jar of vaselin or if your anything like me and cant find nothing when you need it use what will fit but vaselin is a must it looks after rubber

clean down the back door rubber make sure its a dry rag just to clear out any bits and crap biuld up
do this in every rubber all the way round

and the repeat the procese but with vaselin this time

pop it all back together after you have done

and buzz off the end result

That's a good idea.......I always thought my window was slow.....maybe it is the runners....(although mine's a 3rd gen so I'll have to have a play with it).

Good writeup and useful pictures, well done. I would add that when the door is down, the window comes out faster than usual, and there's nothing to stop it coming out beyond the ability of the runners to hold its weight, at which point it will break off and hit the ground.

Sticking something underneath it, or getting someone to hold it while you extend it, takes out the only way I could see of the job going horribly wrong.

sorry jud m8 but its got to be said if i dont say someone else might
it looks like you had a day with stein n wodders
we now know when stein's overalls have gone n the vaseline

n as for the machete was it for chopping something down to fit.
now lets put the clues together n what do we have?
                            we have pink cloth/vaseline n a machete

There is no need to remove the handle.
If you buy silicon spray you can save the vas for chapped lips.
