I was going to take some pics when I get a chance and post them as a "my new surf" post...

    ...but here is a taster:

It is listed as a KZN-185 on the logbook, but was registered as an "N" reg. The guy I got it off said the importer he got it off (5 years ago) said that it should have been on a "P".

Rear door is lift up styleee.

    Wheels are 15" though.

Oh well, at least with the 4wd there is less to go wrong....a bit dissapointing, but there you go.

I believe you posses the rare hybrid 2.5 gen. Hilux Surf only sold in Malaysia and parts of Vietnam. Very rare indeed.

Deffo 3rd gen but on 2nd gen wheels. I wonder if its one that was built during the crossover period?

The transfer case is on the passenger side in the 3rd gen.
So the body, engine, transmission and T/case are all 3rd gen, the rest is 2nd gen.

              p.s. 'N' reg was the change-over year from 2nd to 3rd.

That's a strange Surf. Post the model and Frame numbers so I can look up a production date and other details. It looks like half a second generation and a third generation.

Well, the model number says that it's a narrow body 3.0 TD SSR-X. I think you knew that already, but at least you know the badge matches the VIN plate now.

Not too many narrow bodies around but I can't see how that would affect the transmission. Have you been under it and looked for a centre diff?

Isn't A340F the gearbox code? I seem to recall from my messing around with the gearbox control electronics that I have an A340F too!

                        Now I'm confused!

That would make sense wouldn't it? Why would a 3rd gen not have the same gearbox as a 2nd gen?

After all the posts from experts clearly stating that 15" inch wheels WILL NOT fit a 3rd gen because of the disc size, it does make one wonder about this truck, but , forgetting that, could it be as simple as a shiny transfer knob from a 2nd gen having been put on at sometime because the original wasnt shiny enough? or because the 4wd switch was dicky ? What happens if you try to pull that transfer lever back, does it glide back or is it already back ? What 4WD indications are on the console, are they same as 3rd gen ( a pictogram of 4 wheels which turn green when 4wd switch is operated, and a centre diff)??
I also still cant see the hole in the bumper for the spare wheel winder downer handle? how does the spare release?

Lever on the left (transfer lever) has only 3 positions as far as I can tell. Forward which is L4....which I presume is low 4.

                              N - neutral

Fully back, which is H, which I presume is High 4wd/2wd.

when I push the button, a green light illumates on the dash indicating 4wd (little diagram of 4 wheels, but no diff indication).

I honestly don't know how to get the spare out. I presume that there is something under the carpet to lower the wheel carrier....I'll have a look laters..

.This is all very interesting..........and I am loving my surf!
