Hopefully the one good thing to come out of this Shannon will brought up by a foster family and the cycle in her case might be broken. Sadly I bet one of her family members has already calculated the benefit they would receive for taken her in.

On the subject of breaking the cycle we need to return to the days of real discipline in schools and if that means corporal punishment then so be it.

If I had so much as looked sideways at a teacher after being told off I knew what was coming next and it stung, these days we have teachers being beaten up and abused in schools. Nail them up I say (Joke).
Within two or three generations respect for other members of society will return.

Bring back national service, although it was long before my time i would have gladly done it. When i was a lad the worst thing we did was knock on someones door & run away, now they don't even knock they just walk in & rob the place & this is 12 year old kids with knifes.
If its not broke don't fix it.

The one thing I really admire about the continent is you see young kids playing on the street at night and if one of them does anything wrong, any adult can shout at them to stop and they listen to them. Used to be like that over here and would make such a difference now. Kids dont have any respect for their own parents let alone anyone else

Over here they would tell them to feck off

Sorry, I just mean that crime and social problems are pretty much a feature of all modern society.

The US is, well, the US, Australia has a lot of race problems and white trash, New Zealand has gang warfare, drug and theft issues, Canada is awash with homeless people and subsistence farming, Africa is violent, South America is corrupt, Asia is dangerous, Europe is the same as here but foreign etc etc etc.

All stereotypes, of course, but nowhere's perfect I'm afraid.

I don't think we're going down the toilet, it would just be nice to put a stop to all of this.
I thought there was some hope! but now

Gunna do my homework first, not just up sticks & leave.

And yet the strange thing is that you hear of gang members who stabbed or kicked someone’s head in because “he disrespected me”. You have to earn respect by giving respect and that does not mean by being violent.

Yep 2 sixteen year olds kicked a 30 year old guy to death near me because he spat in one of their sisters face 2 weeks previously.
Bit more than an eye for an eye really...

How do you disrespect a chav thug though? What is there to respect in the first place.

As far as the others, sounds like they are removing each other from the gene pool. Go for it!

I agree with the above and also deal with lots of these families day in day out through my job, I think this case might have gone some way to starting a fix to this problem as well. Most decent people don't appreciate how bad these families can be and all the press coverage of this case will highlight it and bring some pressure to improve the situation. This certainly won't fix it straight away but I think in the long run political pressure on those in power to deal with these people by pushing them off benefits and into work is the only way it will be fixed. Lots of people are discussing this same issue and the publicity Shannons mum has created may actually help.

if he done that to my daughter it would resort in violence
