Inline temperature sender

Anyone seen any oil temp senders that connect inline in 3/8" hose? I want to monitor temp of ATF coming out of the auxilliary cooler.

I think I saw them in a shop on ebay mate.

They come in all sorts of sizes and materials.

Sadly all to big. Needs to fit 3/8" ID hose. Think I'll have a bash at making something.

Nev made an inline coolant sensor adaptor from brass connectors, I believe. A slight variation of that would probably do the job. Seem to remember it was all off the shelf stuff that was used.

A 3/8 BSP Tee, two 3/8 BSP hose tails to suit trans hose and a 3/8 plug drilled and tapped to 1/8NPT will do the job. Here's the inline turbo hose adapter.

If drilling and taping with NPT do not run the tap do deep. Thread a small amount and then check how far the sender screws in. They are a tapered tap and if you run the tap the full depth then it will be way oversize for the sender.

What an excellent idea!

I haven't checked my sender yet, but I have a feeling its a metric thread (M8 I think) - which is better for me as I have a set of metric taps.

I suppose I'll be wandering around the plumbing aisles of B&Q this weekend then...

I have just ordered some 3/8" barbed hose connectors threaded 3/8" BSP on the other end, an 1/8" NPT tap, and some brass bar to make the fitting out of. Just considering buying a 4 jaw independent chuck for the lathe too, so I can make it from square bar - which is more elegant...

Total cost (excluding the chuck!) - about a tenner. Satisfaction in doing it myself - priceless
