ok, i asked the boss today... he used to be a triple trade engineer for airbus...
apparently, they chock the wheels and pin the landing gear... when at full throttle they simulate lifting the gear and look for a drop in air pressure from 3000psi to 500psi (as it's only needed to hold the wheels still when raising the gear.)...
quite often they jump the chocks due to the vibration...
and there's always a minimum of 2 in the cockpit so that one can operate the pedals... obviously one of them didn't press the right pedal!!
before he saw the pic, he said it takes a lot to write off a plane... he's known of at least 4 at heathrow going through this test that haven't had the front gear pinned and the front's dropped on the ground.
but then saw the pic and said "yep, that's a write off!!"
