But just in reply i don't think it was serviced as i changed all filters & as they said it had been done in Feb i think (everything else seems ok).... all sorts of gunk in the fuel filter... will call them tomorrow but it was pretty much a private sale really as i swapped my grey one 2.4 for the black one 3.0 as is....think a few of you have bits off her already.. she lives on!!
Would just do the bits myself but a bit wary on changing brakes and a cv boot might be both?? ... haven't got that brave yet and not too sure about tools needed...got a socket set and some screwdrivers....

I hate to say this, but this is a rare occasion where I actually agree with BDT. If the old MOT became invalid, that would mean everyone who does the thirteen month ticket trick would be screwed and have no time to prep their vehicle before their current MOT expired. It doesn't happen. You go for a MOT one month before your current expires, you have that month to sort any repairs it needs to renew the MOT. You are still perfectly legal with a fail until the current MOT expires.

I guess if it fails on anything minor that i could sort myself when I got home, then I would still hold a valid MOT and the vehicle would be in a roadworthy condition so I'd be ok until the original expiration date. But if it failed on something major then I'd be commiting an offence by knowingly using an unroadworthy vehicle regardless of any MOT certificate held.

That's the way I'm going to interpret it anyway.

A MOT is only a statement that a vehicle is roadworthy at the time the ticket is issued. Nothing more. Your vehicle could develope a fault the day after a MOT that would make it fail if it went through again, but that does not invalidate the ticket. It never was intended to say that the vehicle will be roadworthy for twelve or thirteen months, merely that it was at the time of issue.

I appreciate what your saying, it's more the implementation of the computerised MOT that I'm queirying. Does the fail notice put a 'flag' on the MOT database to indicate that although an valid MOT exists, since that original MOT test the vehicle has been reexamined and deemed not to have reached the minimum level of roadworthyness?

There is a diference between a car developing a fault that would fail a MOT (an the owner being unaware). And the car failing an actual MOT test.

For the last time, a valid ticket is a valid ticket until the day it expires. Anything else is irrelevant.
