The Thermostat fits where bottom hose (metal housing) goes into the block.

mines been doing the same (2.4) tho
i found that every few days i have to put in about 3 ltrs of water
          or she will over heat

so i watch her closely when she is at running temp she is fine
          untill i give it some
up hill or something it starts makeing the temp fluctate
and no its not the head i have checked every time i over heat

water is bubbling out of the breather pipe slowly but over time it makes my water level go down to a point that i over heat

so now i drive around with lots of water in the boot
and the heaters are allways on
the heaters dont carry the heat properly when the waters low lets me know before it happends
and my 2.4 has done nearly 100.000 km with its factory fitted head
am not die lex sick its you that cant read mate

Just cause theres no water in the oil does'nt mean the heads not cracked 3.0 crack as well.

terribly sorry old chap, wont happen again.it sounds like either the thermostat is in need of relacing,or the head is on its way out.you dont need to see any oil in the water to confirm a cracked head, but you may need to get it tested for exhaust gases in the coolant ,halfords were selling the test kit for about 15 quid..........and c,mon marky did you get the job ??
