  • Just picked up a Jag V12 Engine, how the hell do I strip it?!?!?!

I picked up a V12 jaguar engine this afternoon, I only need the bottem end and really don't know much about engines and not sure if I will be able to take the heads off, gearbox, crank rods and pistons etc.

Any advice on where to start and how to go about things?

    James

just do it man. its not hard just remove all the outer bits first after draining coolant & the oil out of the block. remove the heads turn it upside down and remove the sump there you will see the crank & the bottom of the piston con rods.

All fluid has been drained and oil removed, I have taken all the bolts off one head but it appears to have ceased to the gaskets. I have given it some grief with a lump hammer but it has not moved at all. Any ideas how I can get them off.

I am sure everything has been undone including timing chain but it is still solid, using a lump straight on aluminium causes serious damage and maybe a block of wood will transfer more power.

soak it with WD40, then hang it over night from the head, in the morning it should have parted company.

If its a runner, I reckon it sould go it the Grey surf OK!

In a earlier part of the thread James mentions a gearbox . It could be a BW you need . Wrong bell housing , but still might be useful if he has it ?

Tony, I am not sure what is there and what model it is to be honest (I'm not very good with engines of this age).

I am going out to start work this morning as it is nice day here I will take some pictures and post them later, you are free to have what you want as I only really need, pistons, rods, crank shaft and head gaskets (if they are not ruined).

I like the WD40 idea, only problem is I haven't got a hoist and the dam thing is near impossible to move. Will see what I can do.

                              Cheers
