ATF oil cooler by-pass valve

hi,

i'm new to the forum but have been lurking for a while. having been paranoid about a failure between the rad and the oil cooler for my auto box and the £££££ involved in fixing it, i fitted a separate oil cooler.

what i'd like to know now is if/where i can gat a small bypass valve that will prevent the oil from circulating round the cooler until it gets up to temperature. therefore preventing over cooling in the winter etc.

searching on the net hasn't revealed anything, but it may be called something else, i don't know.

please help.

hello mate and welome.... where does this paranoya stem from? why are you concernd about this type of failiure? Sorry mate lots of questions but i am not aware that this is a major issue, i could be wrong and i am sure someone will pop along and put me right. It would be a good idea to put up your truck details too.

time to 'fess up. i actually have a toyota landcruiser colorado 3.0td KZ1-te the reason i'm on this forum is that it's quite active and i enjoy reading about other peoples trucks. i don't do school runs and the 'cruiser forums are very quiet. people hear seem far more willing to work on their own vehicles.

regarding my concerns. gearbox/rad cooler failure isn't unheard of in the colorado. the result is coolant in the box and a bill thats more than the cost of the vehicle. there is no warning of this happening and my vehicle is 10years old.

so prevention being better than the cure and needing reliability for my jollies around norway/sweden and iceland, i fitted a cooler.

reading this forum gave me hints and tips.

isnt there a drifferant ATF thats used in sub zero tempretures?

Thermostatic valve is what you want. Demon tweeks do them, if I remember correctly, but other places will do them too. Well worth adding. You want the ATF upto temp as quickly as possible.
