Common rail aren't usually recommended being used for VO, however.

on our common rail engines we have to use a clean room to build and fit the injection system, the slightest bit of crud and the whole system could fail and knacker the pump.

Something to do with the pressures involved, isn't it?

i cant remember what pressures are involved, but i do know that we have to have bullet proof glass shields over the injection system when testing the engine in case a pipe ruptures.

hehehehe, well not bullets exactly, but i know the pressures are in the thousands of psi,so that could easily cut an arm or head off.

                              oh well,
ive been running veg for ages now, and some times it hiccups on startup but most of the time its fine. just use a bit of white spirit in your tank with the veg oil mix.

whats this knocking noise you have? is it tappet type noise or something?
Iv tried the white sprit idea - didnt notice any difference.

i honesntly dont know what the noise is at the moment.

it sounds very clattery when cold and sometimes misses for 4 - 5 secs after start up, and also ticks/rattles along when hot which leads me to beleive it could be injector related. if not i would suspect the pump, but i hope not. when i let off the revs all knock/taps go away.

on the upside - i did a major overhall of the back window at the weekend and it runs like a dream now. just as good as side windows. before it would stop just before the top.

What % oil are you using? Mine is clattery if I use more than about 60%, so I stick to <50%, if that.
