What are you on about? i never once said it was any kind of substitution for a run in the fresh air. it's a poor 2nd to that but better than nothing for people who don't have the time or space for a dog to run about in.

as for cruel, like i said before, many vets use them to rehab injuries on dogs. if a dog takes to one and enjoys it where's the cruelty there. some dogs don't take to them so it would be cruel to force them. my GSD probably wouldn't like one, but then he doesn't need one because he's out in the forest running after rabbits during the day and gets a late night prowl round the neighbourhood too. but not everyone has the time for this.

i suggested it because this guy has an older dog for which this could be a help. as it turns out it probably wouldn't be...but hey hum. it was just an idea.
i swear, it was like that when i got here...

Linda would so have her in a shot!! but you're a long way away, and we have 3 rescue bitch labs already, the youngest is still a little Asbo, but getting better!!

They run around our fields all day long. The eldest, Gemma is 9 with bad artheritis, in both front shoulders, but she's on plenty of drugs and in no pain, even though she's stiff, and refuses to come in doors, even if its tipping down!!

Most really need to get out and about to be happy, apart from the middle Lab Poppy, who just sleeps all day and only wakes up to eat.

      Good Luck.

Obviously I don't know your dog, and I am only taking what you have put on the forum, but have you considered how much trauma it will cause her to be rehomed - albeit to a nice rural home, she could well end up more depressed through losing her master whom she's shown such loyalty to over the years.

Dogs need routine and stability - Often when a new baby arrives, this causes disruption to their routine, and changes the dynamics of the pack - But with time and reassurance they will adjust. She seems to have a lot of exercise at the moment, but would adjust to a reduction in her exercise routine. Maybe do some other training with her for some mental stimulation in the house - train her to fetch things and stuff like that - Give her a job to do - Mental stimulation can tire a dog far quicker than physical work.

Only you can decide what is really best for her but please don't make a decision too hastily or one that you would regret later.

Thankyou for your concern mate, she is a special dog and i tax her abilities on a daily basis, whoever said you cant teach an old dog new tricks as they are wrong.

Anyway, we have had her now for approximately 7 months and as she was a farm/working dog her whole life, therefore no matter what i give her she will pine for the outdoors life. As i only have a very small garden this doesnt go anywhere near what i Know she needs.

She currently has an array of toys i have bought for her that makes her work for treats and also give her a rountine of training e.g upstairs downstairs, take an object to another room and bring the other one back etc etc.

I appreciate your thoughts for her as i know yourself and Nina have a real passion for dogs and thats really nice to see.

I am currently going through (with Linda and Tony's help) a lab rehoming centre and they have a selection of people who can give her the space to roam and sniff that she needs, also quite close to home so i can visit her regularly. These people are very fussy and are specific Lab lovers so i feel confident in a smooth and pain free transaction (for the dog)

I tried alsorts from changing diet to exercise to training, affection, etc but she is not in her environment and she is noteably depressed. Vet said she has nothing wrong with her so it has to be that. If this move makes her happy then i feel its a must.

              Thanks again Mate
