The fawning of the royal corespondents is a bit much, most of the times, I will admit..
What bugs me is those who would do away with our monarchy refusing to admit that they can do anything good.
Harry joined up, so yes he should go where he is posted ( unless it becomes counter productive, which it did after the press told the world where he was)
So he went and did his bit, same as all the other mothers sons out there. and he deserves the same respect as every other soldier on active service, no more, no less.
the same people having a pop at Harry, won't have it that the Princes trust does immense good, Or the Duke of Edinburgh's awards scheme or all manner of other good works. 'It's all bad cos its royal' is a pretty pathetic standpoint, same as 'it's all bad cos it's new labour' or 'its all bad cos it's Arabic'.
If you hate living in a country with a monarchy, move to a republic!

Saying the Princes Trust does good is a bit like saying The Spice Girls telling people to give money at a Children In Need charity night is good.

Posh Spice could put her hand in her pocket and donate more than the total raised by the rest of us, and not really notice the loss. Does she? Does she hell. Much like Charlie boy. (NOT you, you understand )

Sorry, I do believe we'd be better of without a monarchy, financially, and as a society. It's past its sell by date, and the constant reminder of the royal families 'money for nothing' when there are so many people living in poverty is kind of perverse in this day and age. They've had their time, lets sell em to the yanks. They'd LOVE a bit of it! Oh, and no, they wont be taking the money with them. Its not theirs. It never was.

I also agree re. being shot of Europe, but you cant really be choosing between the two and saying, well, europe is worst, so we should get rid of that one. How about being shot of both, and Britain standing on her own two feet again? She has before. Sadly, I think the damage has been done now, and it sickens me to say our only hope is to hang on to uncle Sam's coat tails

You are right despite the fact I'd quite like to keep the Monarchy And you don't, we are pretty much on the same track, and I would not want to fall out with anyone on that issue. (Unless it's just tired old Class war and mindless jealousy...)

Has someone suggested its cushy? I know a guy who came back a nervous wreck, a totally changed person. Being close enough to the flightpath of an RPG being fired at your position that you feel the wind from it would do that to me too.

As a general rule, war is hell (who else said that then?). What we see on the telly, the film from the nose camera on a bomb, or rockets hitting home from a distance etc might look 'cool' if you've never been involved. But next time, those of you harbouring that point of view might like to consider that there is human beings on the receiving end, and 90% of them are just there because their paymasters tell them to. There are plenty of vids on the internet of just what the beast I used to work on is capable of. Next time you watch one, and laugh as those 30mm HE rounds rip a 'raghead' in two, remember, he was a human being too. It is most definitely NOT cool. It is a tool for a job, and I (and the guys who use them) wish to hell their was no need for them.

the bit that i laugh at is how we are quiet happy to send the army to every corner of the world to improve civilisation for others as this country sprials into a den of drug dealing, murder and voilence. Most old folks dont feel safe, some areas of the country are no go areas at night, a civilian probabaly has a better chance of being shot at in some areas of manchester than harry had of being short at out there and yet there is no one willing to tackle the issues in the uk

why not get hary and his mate to come back home and patrol the sink pits of drugdealing estates in the uk.

and for the record i dont like the royal family but think for entertainment value i dont mind the £10 a year i pay to keep them there
