Was it 3 months or 3 weeks? or were you unfortunate enough to have an involuntary stay for both periods of time.
My tax discs only come off when I take them off every 12 months on all 4 of my vehicles. Never had a problem (so far) with them dropping off. So they ain't got hold of me yet. If you want to drive on the public highway there are laws in place. No matter how trivial you may think they are they are there for a reason.
Just comply no problem.
BTW If the car park was private my argument would be the law wouldn't apply
because it isn't a public highway.Last edited by Taliesins; 25 February 2008, 00:58.Trust your Hound.

edited: the main reason for it needing to be displayed is so you can't transfer it between vehicles as far as i'm aware, or leave it in a different vehicle to the one it was purchased for to make that vehicle appear to have tax, IMO it's a fair cop, if it was in the car but not on display you'd probably have got away with it.Last edited by nero279; 25 February 2008, 02:54.=========

Sorry, but your just asking for trouble by not displaying a current tax disk.
Does every beat bobby or traffic warden have access to the police / DVLA database?
and if they do would they bother checking it?
If you use the Mersey tunnels (for example) it would only be a matter of time before you where caught either with the overhead ANPR cameras or by the officers who pull cars out of the line of traffic when they have their organized vehicle stops every few months…. If a police officer sees you without a tax disk then he is probably going to be wondering what other laws you are also breaking?
Is it worth all the hassle for the sake of the few seconds it takes to fit a disk in your windscreen?Mine WAS a 150 bhp V6 and ran on PETROL

i can't hate the police as my eldest son is a police officer in milton keynes ,not a highway copper though. just a foot soldier.unfortuanatly they have a job to do and that is enforcing the laws that are introduced by succesive goverments where major or trivial, its just that some are a bit more jobsworth than others, and i think the displaying of road tax has been around since it was introduced and i think its even printed on the back of the disc certainly since the 60's
