No, he's cancelled someone else's bid because they didn't have any feedback. He might be telling the truth. Give him a chance to explain but keep your wary hat on.

Where is it listed? could you please post a link on here,

Sounds like he was stitched up by the person he got it off (ABS, freewheeling hubs etc)
You see loads of dealers trying that on. Our new member probably fell for it, and realised when people started questioning his eBay ad, which seems likely judging by his questions in the 2.4 section.
Still, as it was incorrectly described (accidentally by the look of it) on eBay, the buyer does have a valid reason not to go ahead with the purchase, and given that the seller genuinely seems not to have realised and was just going on what the dealer told him, I'm sure he will appreciate why the buyer does not want to go through with the purchase.

So, does the 3rd gen have ABS then?
TBH I've never really missed it in the 3 years of 2nd gen ownership, but then when I learned to drive, ABS was only available on cars well out of my price range so I learned to brake the old fashioned way.
Mind you, my Mk1 MR2 (one of the greatest affordable drivers cars in history) had no ABS, no airbags, no power steering etc etc. Just four wheels, a mid engine, and handling that made the car feel like an extension of your body. Subtle mods such as 30mm lower, stiffer suspension and slightly lower profile, wider tyres. God that thing stuck to the tarmac on tight twisty lanes so well that it could take on anything and not be embarrassed! I'm waxing lyrical a bit, but I do miss her.Cutting steps in the roof of the world

I hope so! all the 3gen are advertised with ABS, (please let me know if this isn't the case)
I learned in a car without ABS but I have the following vehicle history.
Fiesta (no ABS) write off / didn't stop in time
Peugeot 205 (no ABS) write off / didn't stop in time... ever! always coming off the road
Ford escort van (no Abs) OK / didn't top in time
Combo van (with ABS) so far so good, predictable breaking distance
Transit van (with ABS) so far so good, predictable breaking distance
I wouldn't claim to be the best driver! but I have found that ABS has stooped me from crashing into things.
I have slowed down a bit as well!If it can be broken it can be fixed

The last point is probably the main reason! With a lifted Surf on large offroad biased rubber, there's no option but to drive in a laid back manner, unless you're particularly suicidal cretin that is.
Its a mindset really. Leave big gaps between you and the guy in front, take notice of road conditions and dont be a hero.
There is a body of opinion that says the more 'safety' features built in to cars, the less care people take when driving. I reckon Volvo's 'auto braking' is definitely a step in the wrong direction as I can just imagine a Volvo driver's subconcious saying 'I dont have to concentrate as much cos autobraking will save me'
Also, I had a Celica which WOULD NOT stop in the snow as the ABS interfered so much.Cutting steps in the roof of the world

Jeeze, I've never had a motor with ABS in my life, and most with rubbish grip M/T's at that, and I've never been unable to stop or crash into anything with the brakes locking up in 23 years of driving.
