So what's the ultimate not very fast looking but actually quite fast car you can think of? Not including weird Japanese stuff and super-rare special editions.

I thought of a Golf VR6, Volvo T5-R and MG ZT-T. I am not including Lotus Carltons, too rare.

One of the fastest Q cars we ever had on test at Borg Warner was a Rover 600ti - easily as fast as the Ford Cosworth Sapphire we were also testing.

The Rover was (black) totally understated and much more progressive. The Cozzy was a 2.0 Sierra one minute then a split second later was a total maniac!!!!!!!!! Good fun though......

I've owned a golf vr6, nice quick car, i've also had an 850R, (the newer T5R) that was a phenomenal motor, i had it remapped to 315bhp. Ate tyres though and at £110 a corner it wasn't cheap. and here she is:

              Any of the Audi RS's

None of them look anything more than an Audi A series with big alloys but the RS6 has near supercar performance.

My Surf - looks dead slow, but when no-one's about, I like to give it a good caning. 0-60 in about 4 (t) seconds and top speed about 200hmph (half miles per hour)

                    you need a 2.4 andy,
im currently achieving well over 0-60 times of 7^2 seconds and downhill with a tail wind im getting over 250 dragter miles per hour(where all miles are measured in quarters)

golf VR6 are not fast for what they are.
                            what are weird japanese?

the honda vtecs are apparently fast
mecedes kompressors, cant remember the exact model but i mean the ones that look like ford sierras. nothing special at all but they are supposed to be good - and are cheap too

agree with you on the T5. the 4wd is very quick.

mitsubishi gallant vr-4 (v6 turbo, similar to the GTO but is a 1/4 of the size!!) also very quick. you need to hold on the steering wheel

if you wanted to see a pocket rocket then my mk1 xr2 would of been ideal. it was still front wheel drive, but had a LSD to put the power down. wont go into it but i will say twin weber 40 dcoe's and almost 150hp out of a 1.6.
everyone else round my way are into the mk1 escorts and most are 12 second 1/4s. one is almost 11s now. they are normally aspirated.
serious money though and not everyday cars for going to tescos
                            Oh Nana, what's my name?

ive always liked the pulsar since i was a kid. a friends brother has one. he managed to blow up his quaiffe!
apparently the gearboxes are not all that on them - turned me off them a bit.
may be sometime in the future
