i know wot your sayin mate, but ive come from a long line of modded fast cars,i know the surf will never be this but i really like that look, surely u can see that there is this side to it so to speak?,dont get me wrong i completly respect the offroadin side but i just love pimpin lol
Phew! May as well buy a 1st gen and a big bottle of cure-rust!
A big part of that is the cross-over steering, the standard solid axle setup isn't good for much lift, the steering draglink is to short, and on the same side of the axle as the steering box. 3" of lift and the axle at full droop leaves the steering wheel and box at full lock, but the wheels hardly turned. Also you suffer from horrible bump steer over potholes in the road.
Using a IFS steering box and running the drag link to opposite side of the axle means the axle can move up and down without upsetting the steering geometry to much.
But a SAS'ed 2nd gen 3.0TD on 35's would be an awsome tool offroad, which is why I started doing it on the grey 2 door. Plenty of axle movement virtually does away with the need for a locker on 90% of any offroading you'll do in the UK.
