Go for it. You won't regret it. I am shortly moving on to my second surf. I wouldn't consider any other vehicle. It is the only 4x4 a know of with a useful boot. Don't worry about fuel costs. At the end of the day depreciation costs a whole lot more than fuel and its a whole lot more fun than a Mondeo or Volvo estate.

Its absolutely practical. Obviously being a two tonne truck it is a bit less economical than a Smart car but it does everything a nomal family car can do but better. Quite why people are selly because they are having kids I don't know, other than trying to raise cash. They are ideal family cars, loads of room for kids, dogs, bikes or even your other half.
I am trying to sell my 2nd gen, see surfs for sale, which is a good example of what you can buy for under three grand.
