sooner the extension is built, the sooner we can sell and move to a place with more space where 4x4Toys can be officially resurrected and St Tony can contiune his good work for surfs.

        Goddammit!

Reading this thread has made me so angry!!!

There you are, trying to build a small business, which lets face it, brings money IN to the local community, thus improving quality life in the community through spin off work for the local MOT garage etc with minimal impact (when I've been there, the place is hard to spot, and if you didn't know what a Surf looked like you'd never find it) as your business is not actually IN the village AND on a 'no through road'!

What is WRONG with these people?! They were either born with the silver spoon so dont appreciate that people need to earn an honest crust, or retired / bored stay at home mums who have bu66er all else to do but stare out of their french windows blankly all day!

You guys stick to your guns! I hope the small minded selfish idiot who's started all this WILL read this and suffer some sort of conscience pang. They obviously dont remember what its like to WORK for a living!

You should take a leaf from the governments book when they need to get planning issues through, they issue plans that are so outragous and totally offencive to all, that by the time the locals have formed committies and talked to thepress and stressed themselves out fighting it, when they downgrade plans to what they realistically wanted in the first place, the locals think they have won a battle and accept it.

A case in point is the 5th? runway at heathrow, evrybody complained, so the gov issued plans to put a new airport on the Hoo peninsular, which is mostly farm land and a registered nature reserve.
The plans would have seen the total destruction of a least 5 villages including listed buildings, 12th century churches, a 10th century castle ( currently owned by Jules Holland) and the aforementioned nature reserve, let alone all the people that would be made homeless.

As you can imagine this caused the locals to erupt into action, forming committies, lobbying MP's etc etc.

This went on for about 2 years, property prices tumbled, and people were left in limbo, then lo and behold the gov changed plans to another venue, which in comarrison seems the better option, even though a lot of people will be affected, it's the better option.

Sorry for the length of this post, but by now you get the drift, apply for PP for something totally outragous and make it very publc, then sit back and wait for the locals to do their thing.
                Rob

                Still working for the man!

Sorry, I meant they seem like jumped-up bureaucrats. I work as a consultant both to developers trying to get planning permission and local authorities trying to work out what they should do about giving it. Most people think planners are these evil people who are trying to stop everyone from doing anything whereas they are more bound by a strict set of rules that they have to abide by but most will try to help if they can, within the rules.

I agree, I've felt for a while that a lot of people in the village don't really want it to be a proper village, with its own community, shops, buinesses and things going on and people about during the day. They are trying to turn the place into just another socially dead snobby housing estate, where everyone goes to work during the day, and cuts their grass at weekends and tells everyone how much their house is worth!

                        Very depressing thought!!

Just to stick the knife in they've also done us for keeping horses and building stables and an arena 'for a possible equestian business' on agricultural land, as well as the buisness parking trucks on it.

In the current climate in the village its unlikely I'm gonna get planning to run a car repair buisness here, and I don't make anyway near enough money to rent a unit yet (plus would rather be at home anyway)

As the horses being at home are far more important to us than the business, we're going to 'temporarily stop working on 4x4's officially' so we have less hassle getting the horses planning sorted out, as this will give the busybodys in the village less to complain about, as we are allowed to graze horses, but not do anything with them, so just the arena needs planning permission, and change of use, but the rest of the fields are OK.

Also we have nearly got everthing ready for building the house extension, so I was going to be putting 4x4toys on 'hold' anyway while we rebuild our house, so its not such a big deal short term.

But before lots of people get to worried about their trucks, it not the end of the world, they can't stop me working on my trucks or for 'friends from the forum with cash', it just can't be official buisness work.

I'll try and spend a couple of days a week doing trucks, the rest will be house building, so please except apologies in advance, as you'll probably find lots of notice will be required for fixing trucks for a year or so, and we want to try and get a little more geared up for selling 4x4 stuff on-line to make a bit of money.

                              Thanks.
your not running a business though. you occasionally fix your friends trucks for them. nothing wrong there. i sometimes help my friends by doing stuff for them where i live. tell them to stick it.
as long as your not seen to take any money, which you never do.. surely they cant stop you fixing your friends cars? if they went as far as that then what would they say about fixing your own car?
                              Oh Nana, what's my name?
