Spacers, Cool or Carp??

Back in my boy racer days I had a Mark 1 Escort, fitted the stud extenstion type spacers to it...result - stud sheared off...got overtaken by one of my rear wheels on the A2!

Does anyone here have problems from the old bill or MOT testers about the wheels poking out of the arches??? I take it its not legal... or is it one of those things that no one really bothers about?

STANDARD WHEEL SPACERS with oem wheels & flared arches are well within the arch extension, So its not an issue

Depends on the area, I've never had a issue, but them I don't hang around the drive through doing donuts late at night so don't draw plod attention to myself.

Most of the people I know who have had issues have been driving to fast, stupidly, giving lip, etc already, so its just something else on the list.

A small amount shouldn't get you any hassle, stein' is pushing his luck a little, and my Boggers on the 1st gen I generally only fit if its going out to play somewhere serious and local as it really takes the pee...





MOT arn't bothered with up to 20-30mm of tyre sticking out, but construction and use rules means Plod is, so you are their mercy.

Incidentally, only the tread has to be covered, so sidewall bulge, or tread that doesn't touch the floor dosn't matter.

The better set are steel, so are much stronger

Also available in alloy (in face, I havn't sold any steel ones for ages, we only get alloy ones now), less unstrung weight is far better for vibes and handling.

As long as the wheel studs are built into the spacer, not stud extentions, then its OK.

The ones that Tony sells are the nuts, so is the new shocks and springs cant remember the make but they are good.

But seriously worth the the extra IMHO.

If you're talking about the spacers, they are called 'Superspacers' not sure of to many more details, but mine are the same as Roughtrax and LA Supertrux.

seriously i had to fit the spacers for the mot,because the 33" tyres were rubbing against the leaf springs on full lock.im waiting to hear back from nigel about some 4" flares for the 1st gen then the tyre will be covered.so im not planning to run for long with the tyres poking out the way they are.

SUMO had trouble as he had the small arches so i suggested putting some pipe Lagging on them to make them appear bigger.

i thought that the truck would fail with the tyres poking out the way they do.but i was surprised that they didnt even mention them on the mot.im waiting on the fibre glass wings with the 4" flares built in,
