    I had my spots attached to the top of my 2.4 for the best part of a year, and they were never wired up, so it's not like I did anything in a rush.

      At least i aint alone! One day i'll get it all sorted! I just dont really like the look of the supplied loom an i dont have a clue about relays etc! so just let it plod on really

          Driving instructor,

          relay's really arent that hard, they're basically an automatic switch. On a standard 4 pin relay you have two circuits going through it. The low current circuit goes through pins 85 & 86. And when this is powered the switch between pins 30 & 87 is closed, making the high current circuit. They sometimes have a diode in the low current side so you have to connect it up the right way round i think 85 goes to earth and 86 goes to your switched +ive feed. Terminal 30 always goes via a fuse to battery +, and 87 goes to whatever you're wiring up (eg. spotlights).

            An even with a simple explanation like that, im baffled! I'll have to hunt around for a wiring diagram!

              quick diagram, not great i know.


              If you want to switch with the main beam run a 2nd feed from the main beam circuit to terminal 86, i'd recommend putting a switch in this aswell though in case you get pulled by an arsey copper or the MOT man doesn't like it.

                Thats about the same as i did, took my feed from the high beam on the stalk connector tho, one switch for each pair of lights

                  Cheers for the diagram mate!

                  With that way of wiring, I assume its only possible to turn the roof lights on if the sidelights are on? An would it be an issue to take that feed direct from the cable just behind the sidelight?

                      Yup that's correct. I took my feed from just behind the pass sidelight, green wire i think it was, and ran it back to a remote control box, that was lying around.

                      Only thing with this is that you gotta put your switch in this feed somewhere so you either gotta run it right back into the cab then out to the relay again (assuming you're mounting the relay under the bonnet).

                      Someone said earlier about taking the main beam feed from the steering column stalk switches, you can pick up the sidelight circuit there too.
