  • MOT requirements?

The dreaded MOT is looming, am waiting for some new tyres to arrive as one of mine has worn terribly on the inside edge which i am sure will be an MOT failure. Questions is, do all 4 tyres need to be same size to pass MOT as i was planning on putting on the spare for MOT to get past worn tyre problem but spare is a different size.

if the spare is on the truck and it is a different size...fail
if the spare is not on the truck...pass (I think)

Mine passed the MOT with a set of 4, 31x10.5x15 and the old standard size on the underslung spare, and a leaking fuel pump.

They did pull me on the fog light not working though.

Think i've not explained myself - currently have 4 235/75/15 on the truck with a different size spare BUT one of the 235/75/15's is badly worn, so i was going to take it off and put on the spare, as i think you can pass mot without a spare, but reading other threads it seems you need same size tyres on each axle,

yea you are right it has to be the same size on each axel and if the spare is on/in the truck it has to be legal.

looks like you need to borrow a wheel and take off the spare

Not just new cars… the 1990 Toyota MR2 G-limited I owned came as standard with wider tyres on the back, part of the design for improved handling in a mid-engined car.

Tyres fitted to the same axel need to be the same size, diameter & width and ideally should be the same / similar tread pattern. Just think how uneven the handling and braking would be with a skinny road tread on one side and a chunky mud terrain on the other side
Mine WAS a 150 bhp V6 and ran on PETROL
