OK cheers that explains a lot!

I guess the important thing is finding a well maintained straight truck than anything else.

A well maintained unmodded truck yes. If you can find one that already has big wheels / tyres, or at least wheels capable of taking big tyres, that will save you a few bob as you will almost certainly want to fit 33s at some stage

There are some good kits available for lifts and some buget methods too mine cost me about £350 to do a 2+2 lift

Oh and colour don't matter when it's covered in mud

                Well I've sold my Sierra.

Just got to keep my eyes peeling now I guess. Any suggestions on the kind of budget I should be thinking of for a good late Gen 2 3.0TD or V6?

My guess for one in good nick with low (sub 60k) miles is about £3000 round here. I'm just trying to track o0ne down myself, but can't decide whether to buy it modded, or virgin and do it myself (the problem with the latter is the wife won't let me spend the money!)

                  good luck,

Hello from the north I have a 2.4l never had any problems

Except em new head. engine rebuild, injectors & new rad, Maybe I should have done the 3 ltr thingy but Iv'e got a 2.4 and love it. I use it off road and pull trees down with it. Oh and took it onto the beach to collect 2 ton of rocks.

I will never part with it until it dies and then I'd have to have another.

Oh and I've got 5 litres of Burgundy paint Just in case of a wee scratch

Good luck with whatever you get.

The V6 seems to be cheaper but rarer. Would agree, £3k - £3.5k should get you a good 3.0

There's a garage by me that's had a tatty V6 4Runner on his forecourt for at least a year now at £3600 with not a sniff. I reckon he needs to be nearer <£2k to shift it.

                                hmmmm

Now I've been thrown a curve ball.

I know of a burgundy 2.4Td auto with 63K on the clock and had a new cylinder head before any heating problems started. FSH with the split rim wheels. Owner says it's very tidy.

Owner wants £2K for it. That seems a good deal but would I regret buying a 2.4?
