I posted a few requests for an engine a few days ago, no joy in finding one yet. But being a stuburn git, went down to the garage where my beast is wasting away and tried a few things. there is no air lock, but i sat there and ran it at 3000 rev's for an hour with no worries! No overheating and no pressure build up!? ummm i thought, so i took it for a quick test run. Ha! within 1/2 a mile up shot the temp!! luckly it was down hill back to the garage! Talking to some car experts in my place of work ( you meet all sorts in a casino!) they told me of a few similar stories, one about a lexus and one about an old hiace..... they suggested i change the water pump first instead of looking for an engine? is it worth a try? they recon that sometimes the pump is fine up to 3-4000 revs then when it has to work, it just cannot do the job. this would explain a few things.
I would just like a few opinions on this to see if anybody else has had similar trouble.
One more thing, if I do have to get a new engine, does anybody have any idea of a ball park figure of how much i'd be expected to pay for one??
The good news is (if there is a bright side) the garage that sold me the surf has decided to call it a day and offered me my old part exchanged frontera back, and i get to keep the surf to repair myself!! Think it may just be a little too stressful for him! So at least if i have to buy a new engine i can sell the frontera to pay for it!!
I will be back on the road surfing one day soon!!!!
Cheers G
