On this forum, we seem to be developing a bit of a policy about sponsoring charities, which by the way is an excellent idea!
Some of you might remember that early on this year, my father was quite ill and hospitalised for a while.
For those of you who dont know, he has been suffering with MS for 12 years now, and is very badly affected. He's got no use of his legs, little use of his hands, is going blind and is in pain most of the time. My mum has been his carer for a long time, but this last year she's got some help from the MS Nurses who've been brilliant with her and my dad. Nothing is too much trouble.
I've been thinking for years that I would like to show my appreciation with some sort of sponsored event, and in the past have considered cycling (I once did a sponsored cycle from North Wales to London in aid of Leukaemia sufferers) but am probably no longer fit enough. Considered a walk, which is a possibility but no 'high profile' enough. Now though, I've been struck by the thought that you guys (being the nicest bunch of people I know) might be up for some 4x4 related sponsored trip.
I know there is the risk of sponsorship saturation where people get sick of dipping in their pockets week after week, so would be happy to leave it until there is a lull in charity activity, but I would love to do something during the time I still have left with my dad around to see it (He's getting on, and MS takes no prisoners).
If anyone has any thoughts, pop your suggestions in this thread. I thought a John-O-Groats - Lands End type trip would be cool, with appropriate stickers, and hopefully run on veg oil now its cheap!
Admins, do you think this would be worthy of a sticky when the time is right?
Suggestions welcome!
Thanks for listening
