  • Split rims update (surfinstien)

Thought i'd let you know mark and anyone else thinking of haveing split rims re sealed, i phoned that Number that road wheels gave me, (they do split rim resealing, (gasket) their in Milton Keynes) (i think) they charge £60 a wheel Nearly $hit my self, i'd already scr@ped off the stuff on my wheels which is like a silverish mastic, very soft, (you can dig your fingernail it easily) so there aint a "gasket" as such, i thought these guys would sell me some sealant but NO! according to them it's their own specially formulated stuff, and they wont sell it to ya, (rather charge you £60),
i thought this sealand extended between the bolted joint but i stripped one and it's just a butt fit, with this $hit apply'ed to the inside of the rim,
Now i'm gonna try cleaning the surfaces up and sealing em my self, i've rubbed it down with 80 grit, wipe with panel wash and we'll see how it goes,

BTW i reversed the center to se wot it'd look like! nice deeeeeep dish
    i'm tempted

Yeah thats wot i thought, how hard can it be? i got a couple of tubes of industrial expansion joint sealant, if it all goes tits up i've only wasted the cost of haveing the tyres put back on

Yup would look nice polished up! just waiting from the wise one's as to how it'd f**k up the suspension, wheel bearings etc, it'd certainly make the wheels stick out past the arches tho, plus me 30mm spacers, no better not!

exactly.why have the tyres put on just slip the rim over the front and back of the tyre then bolt the rim back together.then inflate.

Cant do that, ya need to run sealant over the joint when it's bolted up, pity tho.

Got the tremmors!!!! quick before it wears off

Are yours two piece or three,?
when the tyres off (mine) the three pieces butt together and were covered with the mastic stuff, so the inside of the rim was smooth,, i'll bring one sunday (if thats still on)

Right i'll drop the model over when ya come back, let me know, as for the wheels, yours still must be sealed on the joint (inside the tyre), unless you have a proper gasket like i was expecting to find, think you need to have the tyre off to see,
Although if you only removed the center it should'nt have affected the rim at all,

you just got a slow punture

Mine are like Ian's. The 'spider' bolts between the two rim halves. Go for the deep dish option Ian, just like using spacers!

Cant think of a reason offhand... As long as the track change isn't so great that the wheels poke out way past the arches.
