I've been driving 5 years and owned 7 cars-I'm gonna stick with this one(3.0 td)-had it one month and it runs like a dream, any queries and the fokes on here help you out within 5 minutes of posting a question. Think about it, a trained mechanic takes at least an hour!?!
I truly is a beautiful car.

The problem is the mpg as my old vehicle is a Peugeot 405TD that will do 45mpg all day long, where as I only expect to get 20 to 30 out of a surf. So I hoping that all you fans can convince me and the missus that buying a surf is the right thing to do no matter what the fuel costs
To hell with the comsumption, you only live once!!!
      I've got a '94 V6 4runner (does about 14 mpg )
Coverted it to LPG (now does about 40mpg - pound for pound )
Had mine for about 18 months - provided I can afford to run it I'll keep it!!!
Loads of space, comfortable to drive, easy maintenance (after all it is a Toyota!!)
You need to test drive some and you are right to stick with a 3L. - if you can afford a 3rd gen I would get it - it has the advantage of constant 4wd and diff locks, a better designed rear tailgate and you can get intercooled versions.
good luck - I'm sure you'll find one you like
      NO WORRIES!
