  • need advice!

    Hi people,
I'm new to the site, and looking for advise. I have a small gardening business and need a vehicle to load up, abuse, tow my trailer, general work horse really. I have been offered a Hilux Surf, it's an import, is there anything i should be looking out for in particular, known faults, that sort of thing, also, to gain access to the rear you have to insert the key into back door, which activates the rear window, then reach in an use handle, is this normal? thanks in advance for advice.
    Bryan.

    Hi gardener,
there is a switch inside the truck near the gearstick that activates the rear window too. Try this http://www.hiluxsurf.eu/faq_general.htm#tech may help with answering some of your questions. Where in Bournemouth are you?

With regards to the back window, that's how it works on the 2nd gens. There is a switch on the centre console to raise/lower the glass as well. Check as you would for any other vehicle. Check the 4wd and electrics are all working, gunge on the bottom of the oil cap, that the cooling system appears okay, and then just the general condition overall for what you want. You will have some work and maintenance to do on it regardless, but just make sure the less the better.

        thank you for speedy replies,
i use the audi forum alot for my other car and usually have to wait days!
I live near wallisdown. This car is on a "L" plate, seems ok air con and all other electrics work, the wants 3K, does that sound about right? do i have to look for a uk spec to get a proper back door with spare attached?

The surf/4runner all have tailgate openings at the back, no way round that mate! Rear slung spare is on some models, if your going to need to constantly get into the back i would advise against one with the rear slung as its a P.I.T.A looks good though

I'm in ensbury park. If the spare wheel isn't on the back then it's hidden under the truck at the rear. There are kits to fix it to the rear though. What size engine is it?

£3K seems a bit much for a 2nd gen, unless its spotless, with a new head and all the repairs done., and a good set of tyres

                  Post some pics??

                  Is it from a dealer??

It is from a dealer, but not a dedicated 4 x 4 showroom, it's very clean in silver and nearly new tyres, no history at all. I may get strung up for this, but have also been thinking about Frontera. any thoughts?
