Well, I took the 3.4 Auto out for a test drive this afternoon....
It definitely went better than the 3.0IC one I tested, and the box felt a lot smoother. The ride felt a lot worse though, but to be fair, I am comparing a test drive in the middle of Wolverhampton (Petrol) to the country (Diesel). The springs on it didn't look to be aftermarket, maybe the tyres were pumped up harder - nearly impossible to tell, but it felt a bit fidgety over bumps etc.
It also made a slightly odd noise when booting it - the best description I can think of is when you put your foot down hard, it sounded faintly like an air cooled beetle. Not on tickover, only under heavy load. No mayo that I could see, coolant looked clean etc
It's possible it was something else, air con pump etc, but my initial thought is something like the HG going... Any comments? I've driven cars with the same 3.4 before (Toyota Highlander in the US) and it didn't make that kinda noise...
I need someone to take me out a known decent one so I know what to expect
