Just a suggestion from the quiet engine club: Have you considered going to a manual 3.4 V6 petrol? It will be quicker and quiter than an intercooler TD and probably cheaper. If you're in a Forester XT now, I'm guessing fuel consumption isn't your major concern.

Petrol ones seem even more thin on the ground than derv's though... Do they make a 3rd Gen Petrol Manual, and are they even more rare than the Diesel manuals?

The 2.7's probably a bit on the slow side. I would still go for an auto V6 over an auto intercooler though, as long as someone else paid for the fuel.

It may be worth going and looking at that one - looks OK, and as you said, if they've had it for ages they may do a good deal...
Anywhere I can find out for certain if they did a 3.4 manual?
Only thing positive about the diesel is the potential for winding up the boost a bit, from searching it doesn't look like many people have tried it on the 3rd gen ones to see if it's worth taking into consideration...

In my quest for looking clever, I got info on transmissions from here although it's notoriously unreliable....
All I'll say on winding up the boost etc on the diesel is that I know TRD do a supercharger for the petrol

Did a hunt on the auction sites - can't see any manual 3.4s - guess they are all auto...

Best speed on the ZZR1200 was 170-180 'till I got caught in the rain and the bike just kept climbing, engines LOVE cold damp dense air and I quit the run @ 210'ish 'cos the feker had no intention of slowing. Trouble is on the way home 70 was like being parked.
