  • 2nd Gen to 3 Gen, what are we going to do?

Our 2nd Gen trucks are now between 12 and 17 years old so what are we going to do as our trucks age? Will we have to move on to the 3rd Gen trucks?
Will we need a policy re-think so that it is acceptable for us “real men” to drive these 3rd Gens, and not just Hair Dressers?

Personally, in a few years time I’d like to move on to a full size Land Cruiser …. That is if we haven’t been priced off the roads by then.
Mine WAS a 150 bhp V6 and ran on PETROL

The 2nd GEN is a good strong Vehicle. Look after it & it'll look after you.

I was planning on just keeping on fixing mine until the chassis turns to rust.

By then, I expect to be grown up enough to own a garden, and immature enough to park my surf in it and fill it up with firewood or something.

        Age

I understand your point. We all move up a Generation. Hairdressers going for 4th gens. I, too, started with a 1986 red Hilux pick-up, then a 1987 1st. gen, now a 1993 2nd. gen. and I will get a 3rd. gen in a few years. (I like the lifting tailgate!) The 3rd gen will still be approx. 12-13 yrs. old.

Like Marky says though, this vehicle is ageless- look after it and it will last.
The need to have a "New" car is a British thing! Ignore the neighbours with their new Renault, Vaux. or Daewoo. In US and Oz. there are plenty of 20 year plus 1st gens out there and they are not looked upon as old.

When it starts to rust i'll learn to weld. When it starts to rot i'll pay someone who can weld properly.

am i cynical? or am i reading between the lines.... it seems to me somone is getting a 3rd gen and is looking for official approval.

I think this rule is set in stone somewhere on this site. 1st-2nd gen owners are REAL men(oh...i'm a lumberjack and im ok..), 3rd gen hairdressers and 4th gen are estate agents.

I intend to keep mine until it falls apart.... once it has done that I'll keep putting it back together until I either a) retire b) die or c) get completely priced of the road (in which case A will never apply 'cos I'll give up work)

20 years is nothing for these motors.... if a L*******r series 2 can survive i'm sure a surf can!!
