I too voted for the school run!
Then found the complaints page and sent this:-
Currently there is a poll in progress asking for people to "Vote a Vehicle off the Road"
With in the list is the statement "Polluting 4x4s" None of the other vehicles is listed with such a perceived prejudice.
This is a clear case of discrimination against a particular vehicle type, one that has currently been much maligned due in part to simplified press reporting. My 4x4 is capable of running on Bio-Diesel or waste vegetable oil (after processing) and is no worse than the majority of large salons (typically I get 32mpg). It will out last most of the small hatchbacks on the road today and thus in the long term help to reduce the pollution caused in the manufacturing process / disposal that is part and parcel of vehicle ownership.
My self and a large number of 4x4 owners care just as much about the environment and wish to see it preserved or improved.
Reporting by both the BBC and other media outlets appear to be happy to condemn 4x4 without clearly and equitably stating both sides of the story.
Finally a recent report nominated an American 4x4 (the Jeep Wrangler) as being the least polluting car on the road due to its long life and low pollution manufacturing process.
Please cease this apparent Anti 4x4 stance that you have taken and once again become the Un-Biased Broadcast Corporation you are paid to be.
May be they will take the hint!

Good one Andy. I reckon if they banned the school run then you could kiss goodby to most congestion. Certainly no traffic here in Cheltenham when the schools are off, but the $$$$$$ High Street shops are packed with kids at lunch time instead. Most frustrating when you only want a sandwich or a paper.Mike G

v12 amg sl 65 twin turbo
oh it's not just this vehicle, take your pick from any of the uber polluting sports cars that your team on top gear love to praise.
i drive one of those nasty polluting 4x4 that you are currently witch hunting, that produce's a lot less harmfull emissions than any of those cars that feature so heavly on the aforementioned top gear. i drive a 92 2.4 td hilux surf, if the government pulled it's finger out and the petro companys worked together, i can run mine off veg oil, easyly.
Stop witch hunting 4x4's, look at the facts, blame someone else for the polar caps melting, you'll find it's not us 4x4 owners.
that's my rant over on radio 2The benchmark....

Pollution and global warming is largely a scam by governments to take EVEN MORE of the ordinary Joe's hard earned off him, whilst feeding the fat cats ever spiralling wage bills.
To add a bit of conspiracy to this suggests that this state of affairs, added to all of the chipping away at our freedoms and privacy smacks of 'control'. Keep us down and with no disposable income, we're easy to control, and the fat cats get ever fatter and more powerful.
Thats my take on things.Cutting steps in the roof of the world

Originally posted by ApacheNo, you'll find that there is a lot of (not paid by govt) scientists who reckon there is a large amount of evidence suggesting that 'global warming' is part of the earths normal, natural oscillation between ice age / warm. There is global warming currently happening on Mars, and the only offroad vehicle up there is Nasa's six wheel electric one.

After kracatowa (spelling?) went bang in 1870 something, the global temp dropped by 4 degrees c ( due to the amount of debris blown into the atmosphere)and is only now returning to "normal", which is why we are seeing temp rises. The gov has not taken this into account.( no surprise they only look at half the info)It's about time we were told the whole, unbiased truth, although this will never come from our gov as they are conditioned to lie to the populus to keep what they percieve to be the status quo and keep themselves in overpaid jobs.Rob

A reply from Jerremy
Got this from the BBC today. . .
Dear Mr Dawson
Thank you for your e-mail regarding 'Jeremy Vine' broadcast on the 1 March 2007.
I understand you were unhappy with the way 4x4 vehicles were listed as being the biggest polluters. There is no intention to denigrate one view that 4x4s are the biggest gas guzzlers on the road, however we have acknowledged this has occurred on the BBC on the 'Newswatch' website:
http://news.bbc.co.uk/newswatch/ukfs/hi/newsid_5320000/newsid_5324700/5324718.stm
We do value all audience comments about our output and please be assured your objection to the way Jeremy Vine introduced 4x4s in the car poll, has been fully registered on our audience log which is made available to the programme. Styles and policies are regularly revised based on audience reaction and be assured your complaint will play a part in this process.
Thank you again for contacting the BBC.
Regards
Tony Brown

I got a reply from the BBC too
Oh dear, did I stir things up ?
Dear Mr Wilson
This is an update to let you know that we are dealing with your recent
complaint but are waiting to clarify some points with other colleagues in
the BBC before we reply more fully to you.
We will of course respond as soon as possible but trust you will
understand that the time taken can also depend on the nature and number of
the other complaints we are currently investigating. The BBC also issues
public responses to issues which prompt large numbers of significant
complaints and these can be read on our website at
www.bbc.co.uk/complaints.
We would like to reassure you that your complaint has already been logged
and circulated in our daily report to BBC managers. We would therefore be
grateful if you would not reply to this email and, in the meantime, would
like to thank you for contacting the BBC with details of your concerns.
Yours sincerely,
Jonathan Carberry

in your own car park for far more polluting vehicles.
