    Not for Surf......

its to go in my VW camper.

Thing is the one it came fitted with doesn't work,

nobody owns up to knowing much about them,
and since its neither an earner to fix, nor in my house to replace,

theres not a team of heating engineers beating a path to my door

Does anyone know a retailer (12V/ Propane)

or indeed have one gathering dust I can buy

    Richard

      The one fitted
I cant remember the make (it may be German)
the chap looking over the elec/gas, managed to get it attempting to ignite
by clicking noise, but its not firing up and throwin any heat out the duct,

Of course now I dont have the name to hand,
although last week I googled it in the hope of finding instructions etc,
but the only German site appeared to no longer offer anything by
      searching its model.
The combination of Gas/closed vehicle/me asleep
makes me slightly sceptical of an apparently old inop unit,

I think all thats needed is unit/thermo/gas & power coupling,

E-bay offered only One hope in the 12 Volt option,

      any experience of them

Can't help you myself but Gary might be able to help fix it or tell you who can.

        Good Luck !

Life is too important to take seriously !

I take it you mean the thermocouple, which is the safety device for the pilot light, is the heater flued ( ducted to outside) od flueless?
I would think it should be flue for such a confined space.

German or not they all work on the same principal and if you can get someone to remove the thermocouple , you can take it to a spares factor for matching.
I would advise you use a corgi registered fitter as incorrect repair could kill you or your family.

Wise words, and thanks for pointers chaps

            safety is paramount of course,

I'd sooner go without and insulate my jim-jams with screwed up
maxpower mags to keep out cold,
            than risk anything like that,

but the newsprints a bugger to wash off

Back in the days when I had a VW camper the main form of heating suggested was an Eberspacher (think that's how it's spelt) diesel fired heater. They may have done gas ones as well but definitely diesel. They were room sealed and made especially for motor caravans.

I think they are still available; sure I've seen something in one of the caravan mags within the last year or so. Can't remember how much they cost but cheaper than a funeral.

I would hazard a gues that it would cost approx £100.00 to repair, depending on parts required for safe repair.

                      Some secondhand Eberspachers on ebay

I would personally avoid gas at all costs. Way too dangerous for me.

it's as safe as houses, if it is maintained correctly.

Yeah sorry, not casting aspersions on gas in general. I have a gas boiler (with an inspection certificate and a carbon monoxide detector ) in the corner of my bedroom so I'm hardly one to talk.

Campers and correct maintenance somehow don't go hand in hand for me

And you've obviously never seen the houses I build

You do need a specific qualification to work on LPG in campers etc, so its not for the diy'er, it would be best to find a caravan service centre to get their service man to sort it, unless you can find a local LPG/caravan qualified installer to look at it.

Try the internet, lots of us are high tech now and have web sites.

Well, there are enough of these vans in circulation so the appliances must obviously hav been fine before.

Clearly not wishing to put anyone at risk but not wishing to throw
                              baby/bath water out,
If repair can be carried out
And checked by 'corgi man '
                              Then OK

Seems a gaping hole in customer service regarding
Anything back from drivers seat, in these vans
                              Opportunity knocks methinks

                              (At least Northant's anyway)

                              Many thanks for advice all
                              Useful forum this

Ps; have a nasty rash appeared on pecker any ideas
                              If halfords stock any ungents?
