I also agree 100000 is a low number... but its the principal really...the government can change that to 1 million or whatever if they bother to take note of the petition at all....

Its a farce that 1.7 MILLION people can sign a petition and BE IGNORED.....

and I'll happily vote in an election if Mr Bleur will call one!!!!

Whilst I agree that the government should take note I am with Apache on this one, way too low a number and everyone will become lethargic in voting in the future like they do now going to the polling stations.

C'mon how long is going to be b4 they go into the EU fully, they rejected holding the referendum on this saying its too early because they did not like what the output of the referendum would be....this government has tried to hide the cock-ups about the Passport and ID Cards fiascos in terms of costs and IT projects as they have tried to block some of the information from being incorporated in the Data Protection Act and Freedom of Information Act saying that people in office will be too afraid to put their say to proposals as they will be held accountable. If you dont want accountability then dont run for a position that requires it

Getting a bit much, isn't it..?
        It just does, OK?

The result of that referendum to be binding on the government. It is unacceptable in a country that calls itself a democracy that the government can ignore the will of the people stated through one of the few channels available to them. Rule by the people means the government serves the people by doing what they are asked to do by the majority. What we seem to have is a situation where once elected, the government has a blank cheque until the next election. That has now become untenable, and the people must be allowed to speak and be listened to, and be able to sanction the government if this is not done to their satisfaction."

Ok - they will probably ignore this one too... but eventually they will have to listen to us....
