Home made snorkels on the cards before it see's any wallowing action. (And getting that front breather fitted).

Which, now I'm thinking about it......... With a snorkel, is there any valid reason not to make a detachable one? Say for example, a plate bolted onto the wing with some type of flange for securing the snorkel onto, and when the snorkel is detached, fit a vent type shroud over it to stop ingress through general water spray or rain.

but why would you want to remove it?

            No valid reason

Say for example, a plate bolted onto the wing with some type of flange for securing the snorkel onto

The snorkel was originaly desgined to keep the air intake high to pull in less dust if its detachable you would either have to revert to the standard pick up or a K&n type set up

and when the snorkel is detached, fit a vent type shroud over it to stop ingress through general water spray or rain.

            the safari head does this

Also the snorkel Appears to act like a air ram as i have not lost any preformance changing from a K&N to a standard filter box and the snorkel so your vent access may cause power loss problems

These are my own findings and opinions

You know roughly where yours goes through the wing, about that height, so it would be above the height of the standard intake. Same type of basic design as yours, but instead of the snorkel going through the wing, it clamps onto the plate through the wing at that point. When it's detached, the plate would then have like a miniature version of Vince's bonnet vent placed over it to scoop air into it and stop general spray.

As Victor Meldrew would say ' I DON'T BELIEVE IT!'

This weekend I won a pipe on ebay (99pence) to allow me to do this very mod!!!!

I'm using a speaker grill - detatchable - and making up a small chimney pipe (kept in the boot of the truck until wading). I've already moved the glow plug relay ready for cutting the hole in the wing this weekend.
