off road, they are great mate, i can get pretty much every where seriously modded disco's can go. only drawback is the front is i.f.s so you dont get the front articulation of the landys. but with the 3l you have such a power advantage so you can power out of situations. the back end is too long but with a simple 3inch lift on the rear its lifted enough to counter some of that drawback.

the reliability cannot be matched by landys. depends on what you want of for really mate.

Not too demanding for the Hilux I hope.

It will need to fulfill the following duties:
      • Daily Vehicle,
      • Greenlaning vehicle,
      • Possible towing vehicle for anything up to what a Land Rover can do (3.5 Tonnes),
      • Be reliable,
      • General servicing parts to not break the bank balance,
      • Economical (at least as far as this type of vehicle is),
      • Comfortable to use.

I think a 2.4/3.0 Litre Hilux would be able to meet these requirements?

Is there much of a difference between the Hilux and Hilux Surf other than a slight difference in body type?

I think it will meet all apart from the towing capacity. Max tow I think is 1.75 tonnes.

depends on if you want an open top knocking shop or an all weather knocking shop

Surely 3.5 tonnes is far above what you're allowed to legally tow with the Landy? Or are you just referring to dragging something out of a ditch?

Just checking it had vaguely the same meaning out your way. Although portable brothel is a bit different from a passion wagon/nookie den.

according to my mate, you can tow double the prime mover weight if you've got a twin axle!...

trouble is, the towing rules are vague as a vague thing.

Pretty much all LRs are rated at 3.5 tonnes with a braked trailer. Freelander obviously isn't though!

So it's just with us having I.F.S that we have the 1750k restriction then? Seems a weird rule. Surely a solid front axle can't make any difference to it's towing abilities? Or are you referring to a true rear twin axle job?
