Am I right in thinking that the retailer will not refund your money or replace the unit, your choice, unless it has been back for repair at least three times. I would remind them of the Sale of Goods Act and in particular quote that the goods sold have to be of a satisfactory quality. In this case, work! You do not have to accept a repair if offered although if you do then you negate your right to a refund. Are the goods within the guarantee period, presumably one year? It may be argued that even if the manufacturers guarantee period has expired if the goods purchased should last considerably longer, then an obligation to repair or refund is extended.

Try your local trading standards if you don't get any joy.

i just bought a GO710... and spent all day circling oxford.

it's got bluetooth handsfree built in that no one can hear me on.

and the salesman said it had an MP3 player... but it only has an option to control and ipod!... (the 910 had mp3, but it's a bit more pricey)

also doesn't plan routes to multiple destinations... only in the order you put them in!... thought it worked the shortest route??

and it says "cross the roundabout first exit" for a left turn and the same for straight on!!

so, it's going back and i'm getting my map box abck out the shed!
nee nar nee nar, i'm a fire engine!

I do many many thousands of miles a year with tom tom. Its about as good as any system can be. They will always get you to the point you want to be at. No machine can beat local knowledge. Mines says cross roundabout first exit for a left but that is no big deal for me. Select the american voice and they call them rotary's. I used to have 30 a to z's in the car i now have none.

They are only really of use to people that do big mileage, I always smile to myself when i see them on a chavs nova or chavalier dashboard and imagine the hapless fool driving to a power meeting with the head of ICI instead of some idiot mate on the next estate
I used to have a surf me!

I have a TT300 and am pleased with it. You're right about the chavs though I think they are the modern day equivalent of the old CB'ers who used to talk to each other on the radio even the their cortinas were parked next to each other.

quoted all of that to them near enough word for word of what you wrote , spoke to a jerk from tt on the phone he said there only was a refund or change of unit if tt broke within twenty eight days, otherwise it haves to go back three times before they will exchange it ,

i do, erm, a fair few... i was only in a 7.5t today, but it had me taking routes through car parks, down one way streets through pedestrian areas, and as there are no industrial estates on it you just have to guess after it says "you have reached your destination"

also did 2 miles up a farm track to a reservoir that was no-where near the delivery point!!

i've only had it a day!!...

out of 39 stops, i had to take 6 back due to lack of time!

another strange thing it does... cornamrket st in oxford is pedestrian after 10am (ish)... it will direct you to the end of the street but not down it for an address.... but if i put magdalen st from st aldates it will direct me to drive through cornmarket st!!

maybe oxford isn't the best place to test it cos it's a $hithole!... (full of scarf wearing cyclists!)... but if it doesn't work there, what chance do i have?

think its just heights if you programme it in properly it routes you around these bridge otherwise if you put it in poi it just warns you of low bridge coming up as like cameras ,
will look for it , tomtompoi.net

Good luck. Remember that your contract is with the retailer who sold it to you and it is with them that you have the benefit of statutory rights. Unless you actually bought it directly from TT you have know obligation to either contact them or accept any repair or offer they may make.

O.K. O.K. I gave in to advancing technology and bought one of these for all those miles I don't do!

                            http://www.thenavigationcompany.com/...avman_F20.html

Excellent value I thought, considering the features it has on it.
