Hi guys & girls. Noticed a small (pinhole small) split on the radiator today under the filler cap due to a bit of corrosion. Its no problem at the minute as i can patch it up ok. Guy at work thinks he can run a bit of solder into it. If that doesn't work then i'll plug it with some chemical metal for now.

Obviously gonna be loooking at a new rad asap (after xmas) so had a bit of a search around & the roughtrax or re-con is coming up as favourite.

But what about 1 of these??? http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Toyota-Hilux-S...QQcmdZViewItem

Has anybody ever tried 1?? Any problems with fitting etc???

In all honesty, if you know a rad specialist whom you trust, get it recored. New
radiator qualities can vary greatly, as some have found. I've always had the
same chap repair any of mine that were buggered, and not one has ever gone
a second time. Price wise, it'll work out roughly the same, give or take.

Yeh whats all that about??? Whats the rad got to do with cooling the transmission??? Really not up to speed yet as i've only had the car a fortnight

Says it will fit both auto & manual though...

The auto rad can be used for both. The manual rad has no ATF oil cooler
fitted in the bottom, so can only be used for manuals.

In fact, I'll extend that description a tad. The manual radiator could, as
Charlie mentioned, be used on a manual provided that an external ATF cooler
was also fitted. However, not a good idea. You would lose the temperature
regulating properties of the radiator upon the ATF fluid. Your ATF would be
subject to far greater temperature variations, with no way to keep the temps
              in check.

Oh right i see So Chillit's right & it wont fit then???

Dumbass questiion but is the oil cooler quite obvious to see??? Is it like a seperate cooler on the bottom???

Yup. You have two small pipes stuck out of the bottom tank of the rad, one at
either end. Physical dimensions and mounting points are all the same. The
internal cooler is the only difference.

2,4 have the autobox oilcoolers in the bottom of the rad . it would be intresting to see what alternative method of cooling the atf are available
As jotto mention to me that it might be a way of keeping the autobox cooling seperate from the engine cooling for offroading and towing when it is needed

soory been on the p*** so cannot rember the full story

The cooling isn't really a problem. It's the temperature regulation that's the
awkward part. You could pop a decent external cooler on, with no rad cooler,
and it should be able to cope merrily if you get a big enough cooler. The
question that causes the problem is, how would you warm the ATF fluid if you
                        did that?

That looks like the right one for the autos.

If your cooling system is working correctly the bottom of your rad will be cold any way, so putting a manual rad and a seperate oil cooler is not a problem.
I did this on my 2.4 and had no problems even when towing a large trailer with another surf on up some very steep hils.
